The Neumayer Station III research station in the Antarctic requires a reliable infrastructure to ensure research operations. On behalf of the Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI), we supplied a customised replacement pipeline for wastewater disposal that was specially developed for the extreme climatic conditions.
Technical realisation:
- 50 metres of FLEXWELL-FHK 127/220 with stainless steel service pipe for maximum resistance
- Redundant heating wires, helically wound, for constant heat output
- Adjustable heat output (30 W/m) for energy-efficient temperature control
- Welding AV with heat-shrink tubing seal for additional protection
In order to fulfil the demanding requirements of the AWI, delivery was made on a disposable wooden reel and additionally a bending machine, which was to remain on site for at least one year. The pipe was manufactured exactly to the specifications of the original solution from 2007 and delivered on time in August.
This project underlines our expertise in the development and manufacture of high-performance solutions for extreme environments.
